Olympic Esports Series 2023 finalists in Tennis and competition format announced

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have unveiled the finalists for the Tennis category in the Olympic Esports Series 2023. The highly anticipated final will take place on Saturday, June 24th, at the Olympic Esports Week held in Singapore. Participants will compete in the popular mobile game Tennis Clash, vying for the title of the inaugural Olympic Esports Series Tennis champion.

The Finalists

The six-player field consists of the top performers from the Qualifiers, which were conducted in Tennis Clash from May 4th to May 10th. Additionally, one wild card player from Singapore, the host country of the live finals, has been granted a spot in the competition. The matches are scheduled to commence at 17:30 local time (10:30 GMT).

The six tennis finalists are as follows:

William Foster, known as Ƒѳᵶᵶƴ, representing Great Britain
Shenghao He, also known as Kafe, representing the People’s Republic of China
Brian Netter, with the username BRUINˣᴹᴱᴺ, representing the United States of America
Shengquan Lyu, known as ‘Fly失忆’, representing the People’s Republic of China
Anass Benghazi, known as Anteo, representing France
Andrew Arriola, with the username DéjàVu٠мт, representing Singapore

Competition Format

In the first round of the final, players will be divided into two groups of three. The top two performers from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

The winner of Group A will face the runner-up of Group B, while the winner of Group B will compete against the runner-up of Group A. These semi-final matches will follow a best-of-three match format, with the winners progressing to the final and the losers battling for third place. The third-place match will also be decided through a best-of-three match series, while the final will be contested as a best-of-five match series.

The Olympic Esports Series 2023 Finals will be broadcasted online via a live stream, tickets for the event are available for purchase at https://www.sistic.com.sg/events/olympics0623.

Collaboration and Game Details

The ITF is among several International Federations and game publishers that have collaborated with the IOC to bring forth the Olympic Esports Series 2023. This global virtual and simulated sports competition was initiated by the IOC to promote esports within the Olympic framework.

Tennis Clash, the chosen game for the Tennis category, was developed by Wildlife Studios. The ITF has been in partnership with Wildlife Studios since 2021, when they first introduced the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s World Cup of Tennis, to mobile devices. For the Olympic Esports Series 2023, a specially designed Tennis Clash court was created to enhance the players’ experience and showcase the Olympic spirit within the game.
