Priest Simulator latest in whacky simulator craze

We’ve had Goat Simulator and Bakery Simulator, we’ve even had Granny Simulator, but the latest in the simulator craze takes things to a whole new level of weirdness. Priest Simulator, the latest offering from game developer Asmodev, has been dubbed an action mockumentary, but it is much more than that!
The game stands out for its humor and irreverence, with players undertaking the role of a vampire priest, who is desperate to get back his batoon and go back to his rightful place of Hell. You must fight the satanists and take on priestly duties, which include blessing the Christians, renovating the church and performing exorcisms.

The video game combines the weird and wonderful ideas of Asmodev, known for gruesome games such as Human Farm, Vulgator and Infernal Radiation, with the simulators of Ultimate Games S.A.

The reverse horror genre

Priest Simulator is a continuation of the reverse horror genre, exemplified by Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse, which was developed by Wideload Games. In Stubbs the Zombie, players assume the role of a zombie, who goes on a killing spree in a fictional town in Pennsylvania, a popular setting for video games.

The iGaming industry uses a similar tactic for its slot games through the use of unusual characters such as Carnival Cow Coin Combo, irreverent slots such as Sheik Yer Money and bizarre titles such as OMG! Kittens. In a crowded marketplace, slot developers, just like the creators of video games, look to attract the interest of players via unconventional game titles. In much the same way as Pennsylvania is a popular location for video games, it has also witnessed a boom in casinos since online gambling was legalized in the state in 2017. Players interested in trying out some of these out-of-the-ordinary slot titles in the Keystone State should read this comprehensive article for more information, as there is a wealth of information about the hundreds of new slots available in the US.

A simulator for almost anything

When it comes to simulators, it seems nothing is sacred as the opportunities to develop the genre are virtually endless. In fact, when Rock Simulator emerged in 2019, it seemed we had reached peak simulator. The humor of the genre is demonstrated by the gameplay, which involves taking on the role of a rock and watching as time passes by. Simulators cover almost every conceivable angle, from the sublime Surgeon Simulator to the ridiculous PowerWash Simulator and a whole host of others you can read about here.

The simulator game genre has also given birth to the phenomenon of gamers taking a busman’s holiday by playing the simulators of their actual jobs. With the likes of the YouTuber known as Dad Rail, who in real life is a freight train driver, testing out his skills on train simulators. His love of train simulators, which is detailed here, helped him in his career to the extent that they helped demonstrate the level of concentration necessary to do the job.

Simulators can be a source of humor and also give gamers insights into the requirements of a particular profession. Although, you should not expect it from all games, with priests and surgeons being the most obvious examples!
