Krafton Inc. Takes a Stake in Far From Home, Bolstering Forever Skies Development
In a strategic move, Krafton Inc., known for its involvement in major titles like PUBG: Battlegrounds and Subnautica, has acquired a minority stake in the innovative Polish studio, Far From Home. This partnership aims to solidify the future of Forever Skies and other upcoming projects, ensuring a robust developmental runway for the creators of the acclaimed first-person sci-fi survival game.
Independent Spirit, Enhanced Support
Far From Home, since its inception in April 2020, has made significant strides in the gaming community with the release of Forever Skies on Steam Early Access. Achieving over 160,000 sales, the studio has carved out a niche for itself with its unique blend of survival gameplay and futuristic storytelling. The acquisition by Krafton will not alter the studio’s operational independence or its self-publishing capabilities. Instead, it provides a stable platform for continued innovation and development, particularly with the upcoming full release of Forever Skies on both PC and PlayStation 5 later this year.
Andrzej Blumenfeld, CEO of Far From Home, emphasizes the synergy between the studios, noting, “Having a partner like Krafton helps further cement our belief in the strength of our team and project. Especially since Krafton’s track record includes investing in the creators of one of the most acclaimed survival games, Subnautica, and one of the biggest coop hits, PUBG.” He adds, “While we can comfortably fund the operation of our studio through the sales of Forever Skies, the capital injection from Krafton will provide important funding diversification and security for us in the long term.”
Looking to the Future
With the backing of Krafton, Far From Home plans to use the newly acquired funds to kickstart the development of their second project. This initiative will begin post the full launch of Forever Skies, accompanied by continued support for the game.
Blumenfeld shared his vision for the future, stating, “Our funding for the completion of Forever Skies is secured, but eventually, we will need to start looking ahead at what comes next for our team. The capital raised through Krafton will make it significantly easier for us to plan out and build our next title to be something bigger and even more ambitious.”
In addition to the funding, the recent announcement of an agreement with Sony indicates that Far From Home’s future projects are not only ambitious but also well-supported and anticipated by the gaming community.
