WATCH DOGS 2 –TOP HACKS AWARDED AT MLH PRIME

Posted by on Ubisoft

Hundreds of student hackers had the chance to show off their skills at the MLH Prime: Southwest Regionals in Austin, Texas, last week. After the dust settled and the hacks were… hacked, Ryan Gates – a senior from Texas A&M – was awarded top honors in the category of Best Watch Dogs 2 Device Privacy Hack. He developed a browser add-on that prevents device fingerprinting, so servers will have more difficulty tracking your views. You can try it here if you want to check it out for yourself.

Other awards were given at the event, including one for Most Technical Hack (and third place overall) that went to Jeffrey Zhao, Evelyn Wong, Adil Virani, and Ian Macalinao for their Prime Glass, a Google Glass-like pair of glasses, built from scratch, that can be controlled by blinking. The Best On-Demand Hack went to the team of Jarod Morgan, Sanat Sharma, Shounak Kulkami, and Ben Awad for SnapShop, an app that uses your phone’s camera to identify objects and give you more information, like price and where it can be ordered from.

Throughout this season of MLH, students have also been able to participate in a “Capture-The-Flag” challenge that tests their ability to discover and manipulate security vulnerabilities on the Web. If you’re a student and meet the other contest requirements, you can take the challenge yourself and potentially win a trip to Montreal to meet the Watch Dogs 2 development team. The contest runs through December 31.

Watch Dogs 2 is now available on PS4 and Xbox One, with PC to follow on November 29. For more information on the game, check out our previous coverage:
