Hilltop Studios, an independent game studio, and Versus Evil, a leading independent video game publisher, have announced their collaboration on a narrative-driven deduction adventure game titled Lil’ Guardsman. The game is scheduled for release in 2023 on multiple platforms, including PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox Series consoles. Drawing inspiration from the classic point-and-click genre, as well as the mechanics of the highly-regarded game Papers, Please, Lil’ Guardsman offers a unique gaming experience set in a high-fantasy world.
Lil’ Guardsman combines the comedic sensibilities of Monkey Island and other 1990s Lucasarts adventure classics with an immersive high-fantasy setting. Players will assume the role of Lil, the daughter of the head castle guardsman. Lil often finds herself responsible for guarding the castle gates and interrogating a variety of whimsical and peculiar characters seeking entry to the city walls.
As Lil, players will encounter an assortment of fantasy characters, from enigmatic elven mages to orc single mothers, each going about their daily business. Tasked with uncovering the true intentions of these visitors, players will engage in dialogue and utilize a toolbox of items to ensure the safety of the castle. The narrative-driven gameplay requires players to make careful decisions, as the consequences can be severe. Clever use of abilities and keen deduction skills will help players unravel mass conspiracies and safeguard their castle and family from potential threats.
