It’s been a few months since Landfall debuted at OC3, and the demos did not disappoint. This top-down tactical shooter from Force Field lets you engage in post-cataclysmic sci-fi warfare through a Mad Max-meets-Waterworld mashup brought to life in VR.
Today, we’re excited to announce that the title Upload VR praised for its “exhilarating gameplay, heart-pumping action, and tight controls” will launch its open beta weekend tomorrow!
Landfall takes full advantage of presence with a unique emphasis on third-person multiplayer action. With the battle playing out in multiple areas simultaneously, the constant scanning of terrain and incoming aircraft plus the ability to physically move in for a closer look add up to a brand-new type of immersion. The twin-stick shooter mechanics keep the action fast where the ability to take cover, return fire, and lob grenades is a perfect fit for gamepad.
From first-person segments, 12 different soldier loadouts, and bipedal “strider” tanks to its combination of competitive and co-op multiplayer alongside a robust single-player campaign, Landfall gives you plenty of gameplay variety and hours of entertainment.
“With this open beta, we invite everyone to try Landfall and let us know what you think of the game,” says Chief Creative Officer Martin de Ronde. “People from the Force Field team will be playing as well and are happy to hear your opinion—you might even fight with or against them during the beta!”
It’s fitting that the open beta weekend kicks off on Groundhog Day, since you’ll probably want to play again and again and again before it closes at 8am PT on February 6. After that, it’s gone—so enjoy the beta while you can!
