Caligari Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for “Whateverland”, a point-n-click quest, which tells the story of Vincent, a skilled thief who was imprisoned in a mysterious world by the will of a powerful witch. The crowdfunding campaign and additional funding will allow the developers to complete the project on time, as well as maintain independence and launch Whateverland on PC and Nintendo Switch.
“Whateverland” is an upcoming hand-painted point-n-click adventure game with a branching dialogue system, non-linear gameplay, various endings, and a unique board game called “Bell & Bones”, which the developers themselves describe as a child of rugby and quidditch, that desperately wants to become chess.
Furthermore, Caligari Games released a demo version on Steam – Whateverland: Prologue. The short prologue will provide an opportunity to meet some of the main characters and try out a couple of in-game mechanics.
The source of inspiration for the game came from the aesthetics of early Tim Burton’s films, such as “Corpse Bride”, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, “Beetlejuice”, etc. “Whateverland” was also influenced by these masterpieces in terms of its tone and delivery. It’s a dark and whimsical comedy with some unexpectedly serious topics being thrown into the mix of all the different plot lines the game has to offer.
The campaign on Kickstarter will last until July 15th. The main goal of the crowdfunding is to preserve the studio’s independence, as well as to release “Whateverland” by the end of 2020 on Steam, GoG.com, and Nintendo Switch.
