Record-Breaking Turnout

This year’s Evo event marked an astounding 81% growth in total participants from its 2022 event. Remarkably, Street Fighter 6 alone boasted 7,081 players, possibly surpassing the current Guinness World Records for the largest turnout in a single fighting game tournament. This game, along with Guilty Gear -Strive-, MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, set new franchise registration records. The event welcomed a total of 9,182 players representing 71 different countries.

Games and Announcements

As expected from an event of this magnitude, numerous game reveals excited the attendees. Fans were treated to character reveals in games like TEKKEN 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus, and Guilty Gear -Strive-. New game trailers, such as the one for “The Banished” from Mortal Kombat 1 and the announcement of new skins for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Street Fighter, were among the highlights.

Live performances added to the ambience, notably by the Capcom CapJam band. Additionally, top publishers showcased playable versions of anticipated titles, including Riot Games’ Project L, TEKKEN 8, and Mortal Kombat 1.

Exhibitions and Entertainment

Crunchyroll, recognized globally for delivering premium anime experiences, further electrified the atmosphere. They offered fans DJ performances, interactive games, special guest appearances, and introduced Street FighterTM: Duel. Evo also broadened its range of activities, notably including a sprawling 10,000 square foot retro arcade and the fan-favorite artist alley.

Future Endeavors

Evo disclosed their plans for 2024, with key events like Evo Japan slated for April 27th – 29th in Tokyo’s Ariake Gymnastics Centre and another grand event in Las Vegas from July 26th – 28th.

Honors and Recognitions

In a symbolic gesture acknowledging Evo’s significance, Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom presented the Key to the Las Vegas Strip. This act encourages Evo to regard Las Vegas not just as an event location but a home. Further emphasizing this sentiment, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared August 6th, 2023, as Evo Day in the state.

Sponsors and Supporters

Evo’s immense success can also be attributed to its dedicated sponsors. Chipotle led the event as the presenting sponsor, with significant support from AT&T, PlayStation Tournaments, Sony INZONE, Red Bull, and Kizik.
