Gaijin Entertainment is leveling up War Thunder with their upcoming major update, tagged “Sons of Attila”. Set to drop this September, the game is bolstering its military vehicle roster by adding a line-up of Hungarian armored vehicles. These new in-game toys represent various eras of Hungary’s military tech, ranging from the WWII-era 39.M Csaba to the contemporary Lynx KF41 BMPs.

War Thunder Director Talks Strategy

Vyacheslav Bulannikov, War Thunder’s game director, says the new additions aim to diversify players’ options without compromising game balance. “Hungarian designers have created quite a few interesting vehicles that will expand the range of possible setups for players,” he explained. In line with War Thunder’s commitment to accuracy, these new Hungarian vehicles are designed to mirror their real-world specs.

The Csaba: A Scout from the Past

The 39.M Csaba, named after Attila the Hun’s youngest son, is an armored car developed in 1932 by Hungarian engineer Nicholas Straussler. During WWII, this vehicle saw action in several fronts, including Yugoslavia, the USSR, Poland, and Hungary. If you’re a fan of quick, agile scout units, the Csaba’s high speed, independent suspension, and 20mm cannon will likely catch your eye.

The Modern Powerhouse: Lynx KF41

Fast forward to the modern age, the Lynx KF41 BMP stands as a cutting-edge infantry fighting vehicle. It features the ADS hard kill active protection system, capable of detecting enemy projectiles and neutralizing them in mid-air. For those who dig more firepower, the Lynx comes equipped with the Lance 2.0 weapon module, housing a Rheinmetall Wotan 35 mm autocannon and Spike ATGMs. The Lynx KF41 BMP is currently exclusive to the Hungarian forces.

Hungarian Vehicles Join the Italian Research Tree

Here’s the kicker: these Hungarian armored vehicles will be incorporated into the Italian ground vehicles research tree. This marks an interesting branching point for War Thunder players looking to diversify their Italian line-ups.

More Than Just Hungarian Flavors

The “Sons of Attila” update doesn’t stop at Hungarian vehicles. Get ready to encounter the American superdreadnought “Texas”, the Soviet flamethrower tank TO-55, the American F-16C version Block 50 fighter jet, and the Chinese-Pakistani MBT-2000 tank among other additions.
