Is Pokémon Go Really as Popular as the Daily Stats Show?

The people behind the oh-so popular Pokémon Go have bragged that they still have more than 80 million players per month but according to daily statistics that’s not quite the real story. This has somewhat confused fans about what it all means. The fan outrage and player boycotts, due to the price hikes are well documented, but the game still has a healthy base. However, that may not be the case according to a report from 1 May from ActivePlayer.io who studied data from both SensorTower and Statista. The user numbers for daily use shows that the player count may be on the decline.

Gaming is always a ton of fun but what also hits high on the fun factor scales are online casinos with free play.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

The chart that ActivePlayer.io made points out the fact that the game had exactly 80,255,089 players in the previous 30 days. That is, in actuality, a figure that is hundreds of thousands more than previous months and, in fact, the fourth-highest monthly total since November of 2021. However, when it comes to the daily tally, it has decreased to 5.35 million, and that is much closer to numbers from February and April of this year.

The numbers from February and April were still well short of the previous few months when there were 8-9 million monthly users. This points to a lack of satisfaction in the game’s community. It’s no surprise that the changes to the Remote Raid Pass and then the boycott that followed had a role in the diminishing numbers. The whole thing began to play out in February of this year and that was the same time when there was player decline. It was an accident when Niantic leaked their plans for the Remote Raid Pass in February. Even though there wasn’t any confirmation until the end of March and it didn’t officially happen until the beginning of April, it got the ball rolling.

Up and Down?

With all that in mind, it’s a little head-scratching that the average per-month count for players looks to have increased but the per-day count has decreased. Not only are industry experts a little baffled, but fans of Pokémon Go are too. There are many that have discussed in forums and other mediums that the number of 80+ million could be coming from logins to the game and not real live players. There are others that have come out and said there were many new accounts created in order to bypass the limits of the raids. A few fans have even been wary of the actual stats since ActivePlayer.io has been transparent and said that their numbers are only estimates.

Interesting Time Ahead

There will be a lot of scrutiny in the upcoming weeks and months for the player count for Pokémon Go. It will be interesting to see if the boycott, as well as the strike, caused a big impact or if it was a flash in the pan thing that did not make any waves. At this rate, it looks like the latter is more likely.
