Square Enix has announced the release of its acclaimed HD-2D RPG, LIVE A LIVE, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Previously launched on the Nintendo Switch to widespread praise, LIVE A LIVE is a story-driven RPG developed by Team Asano, known for their work on titles such as Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default II, and Triangle Strategy.
LIVE A LIVE invites players to explore eight distinct stories featuring eight unique characters, set in various time periods ranging from prehistoric times to the Wild West and beyond. The game boasts a highly strategic battle system known as the “checker battle system,” where players can also master diverse gameplay mechanics in each chapter, including stealth, suspense, and trap placement. The episodic story format allows players to customize their gameplay experience, completing each chapter in any order they choose or even playing through parts of multiple chapters simultaneously.
Under the direction of Takashi Tokita, who previously worked on Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV, LIVE A LIVE has been revitalized using HD-2D technology that combines the nostalgia of pixel art with modern graphics. This innovative approach delivers a classic RPG experience with updated visuals for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC gamers. Additionally, the game’s soundtrack has been rearranged under the supervision of its original composer, Yoko Shimomura, known for her work on Final Fantasy XV and the Kingdom Hearts series.
A free playable demo of LIVE A LIVE is available for download from the PlayStation Store and Steam, allowing players to experience the opening sections of three stories set in the Wild West, Edo Japan, and the distant future. Players can transfer their saved progress from the demo to the full version of the game on PlayStation and Steam, enabling them to continue their adventure from where they left off.
LIVE A LIVE is now available for digital purchase on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. PlayStation Store customers will receive a bonus PlayStation 4 theme with their purchase, while Steam customers will receive a PC wallpaper. A limited-time 20% discount is available to Steam players who purchase the game before May 11, 2023.
