ROCCAT Vulcan II Mini Optical Gaming Keyboard Review

Summary
ROCCAT’s Vulcan II mini features TITAN II optical switches, a translucent detachable palm rest, Easy-Shift [+] technology, and vibrant AIMO RGB lighting priced at $149.99. A massive engineering feature I like is the detachable power cable (ROCCAT please do this on all your keyboards). The Vulcan II Mini is just a little larger at what ROCCAT calls a %65 size. They have included the arrow keys along with the Del, Home, PgUp, and PgDn nicely tucked into the keyboard making it flush on all sides. I am a massive fan of this. This product has an endless amount of customization and the same performance as its bigger sibling! I do think it's priced a bit high I would like to see this at around $119.99 but other than that there really isn’t much to say on the negative side.

Coming off the recent review of the larger Vulcan II Max we now get a closer look at its little sibling the Vulcan II Mini. Designed with the same quality, performance, and proprietary technology, players will now get a chance to experience it in a smaller %65 version. ROCCAT’s Vulcan II mini features TITAN II optical switches, Smart key technology, Easy-Shift [+] technology, and vibrant AIMO RGB lighting priced at $149.99.

If you read the review on the older sibling, then you would know how much I loved the black version of this keyboard. I can not say the same for the white version, it’s like a night and day difference. I think it starts with the lighter color of the anodized aluminum top plate. I get it some people like this look, but it just does not hit as hard for me. Fortunately, you can get the Vulcan II Mini in black also which looks next-level dope. A massive engineering feature I like is the detachable power cable (ROCCAT please do this on all your keyboards). YES, some people have more than one keyboard for different applications or game genres.

ROCCAT really got me with the translucent palm rest and bottom side RGB system that illuminated the Max version. We can’t be mad that this version does not feature it though because it just isn’t viable on a keyboard this small. My go-to size for keyboards is tenkeyless which basically slices off the Numpad. On the flip side, you have a 60% which doesn’t have anything right of the enter button including the arrow keys and interface buttons. The Vulcan II Mini is just a little larger at what ROCCAT calls a %65 size. They have included the arrow keys along with the Del, Home, PgUp, and PgDn buttons nicely tucked into the keyboard making it flush on all sides. I am a massive fan of this.

Both versions of the Vulcan II now feature ROCCAT’s new TITAN II Optical Switches. Its previous Generation was fast enough but now they feature the world’s first dual-LED system. According to the ROCCAT website, unlike the Vulcan II Max, this version only comes with a red optical key. A linear key that performs at a 45G force, 1.4mm of actuation, and a 3.6 mm Travel Distance. Like its bigger sibling, it also features Full Key (NKRO) with 100% Anti-Ghosting, and a Polling Rate of 1000 Hz. Finally, an RGB per-key illumination system with 16.8m colors + 24 smart keys powered by The Swarm software. Small in size big in performance.

Customization is next level starting with your ability to create a unique experience by swapping compatible third-party cross-shaped keycaps. An AIMO RGB experience on the exoskeleton board offers a more vibrant look. Swarm software ensures you get the most out of the RGB lighting system. Features like ROCCAT’s proprietary Easy-Shift [+] and Smart Keys allow you to program each key the way you want it. This product has an endless amount of customization! I do think it’s priced a bit high I would like to see this at around $119.99 but other than that there really isn’t much to say on the negative side. To all the hardcore FPS and MOBA players most definitely peep this bad mama jama.
