Shadows Over Loathing, an adventure/RPG developed by the creators of West of Loathing and the browser-based MMORPG The Kingdom of Loathing, has made a surprise debut on the Nintendo Switch. Announced during Nintendo’s Indie World summit, the game takes players on a horror-tinged, Prohibition-era comedy adventure in a black-and-white world.
In Shadows Over Loathing, players are called to assist their Uncle Murray at his antique shop in Ocean City. However, upon arrival, Uncle Murray is nowhere to be found. Players must investigate his disappearance and the mysterious artifacts he has collected. Along the way, they will uncover shadowy plots and eldritch tentacles that could potentially bring about the end of the world.
The game offers a larger world than its Wild West counterpart, West of Loathing, and includes authentic 1920s slang, strategic turn-based combat, cursed antiques, a corrupt government to overthrow, and a variety of other features like fishing, an infinitely tall building, and sentient math.
For those who prefer physical versions of the game, publisher Serenity Forge is working on producing Shadows Over Loathing for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5. Starting tomorrow, both standard and collector’s editions will be available for pre-order from Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, the Serenity Forge Store, and other retailers.
Shadows Over Loathing offers players a unique and immersive experience with its engaging storyline, turn-based combat, and a blend of comedy and horror elements, making it an exciting addition to the Nintendo Switch game library.
