Rogue Games, a publisher comprised entirely of 90’s anime fans, and developer MAETH have announced the upcoming release of their brutal retro movement shooter, SPRAWL. The game is set to launch this August on PC, specifically on the Steam and Epic Games Store platforms.

Step into the shoes of SEVEN, a former special operations super soldier, as you attempt to escape an endless cyberpunk megalopolis under the control of a corrupt totalitarian military junta. Equipped with an icarus cybernetic implant, SEVEN possesses the ability to defy gravity by running on walls and manipulate time using the blood of dismembered government operatives. To survive in this treacherous world, SEVEN must either heed the voice of FATHER, a mysterious entity guiding her, or face a grim fate.
Drawing Inspiration from Anime Classics and Real-World Phenomena
Taking inspiration from beloved anime classics such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell, as well as the real-world phenomenon of Kowloon Walled City, SPRAWL’s setting is a cyberpunk walled megalopolis notorious for its illicit activities. The protagonist, SEVEN, resides in a dilapidated apartment, scarred and dishonored after being framed or set up for the massacre of civilians during a failed military operation.

SEVEN’s bleak existence takes an unexpected turn when FATHER reveals that the ruling junta has targeted her as an “anomalous entity” to be eradicated. Instructed by FATHER, SEVEN must embark on a perilous mission to destroy the SPIRE, the towering needle at the heart of the city that serves as the seat of the oppressive military government. Armed with a lethal arsenal, SEVEN aims to dismantle the regime and uncover the sinister technologies hidden within.

The original soundtrack, composed by Carlos Lizarraga of MAETH, a seasoned music industry veteran, responds to various player actions, including level progression, scripted events, and, notably, intense acts of violence. Carlos Lizarraga’s expertise spans working on major pop hits, niche indie labels, and creative direction for projects at industry giants like Warner, Interscope, and Sony. Additionally, Hannah Crawford, the other half of MAETH and a Gameplay Programmer at AAA studio Firesprite, has contributed her expertise gained from working on popular franchises like Sea of Thieves and Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
