In the realm of spine-chilling video game experiences, horror enthusiasts are always on the lookout for the next thrilling title to send shivers down their spines. HOOK, the indie label of renowned video game publisher Digital Bros, has teamed up with Polish developer Duality Games to bring forth Unholy, an upcoming first-person psychological horror game. Unholy is set to unleash its dark forces upon players on July 20th for PC, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X versions to follow in the future.

For those eagerly anticipating the arrival of Unholy, the wait has become a little more bearable. HOOK has released a playable demo of the game, allowing players to step into the haunting world ahead of the official release. The Unholy demo is currently available on Steam, providing an early glimpse into the bone-chilling atmosphere and eerie gameplay. Moreover, the demo will be showcased during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which runs from June 19th to June 26th. This festival will further immerse players into the nightmarish realms faced by the game’s protagonist, Dorothea, as she embarks on a treacherous journey in search of her missing son.

Unholy takes players on a harrowing adventure surrounding the perplexing disappearance of a young child from a desolate and inhospitable post-Soviet town. As players delve deeper into this psychological horror experience, they will engage in exploration, puzzle-solving, and encounter intriguing combat mechanics. With the ability to traverse between two parallel worlds, players will navigate through the grim and desolate reality of a brutalist post-Soviet Eastern European town, as well as the eerie and twisted Unholy world—a grotesque society governed by a merciless priest caste.

The game’s immersive and intense storyline is driven by a dark narrative, complemented by visually captivating aesthetics inspired by the works of acclaimed dark artist Tomasz Strzałkowski, the Art Director and founder of Duality Games. Unholy offers a unique blend of gameplay elements, combining meticulous exploration, intriguing puzzle-solving, stealth mechanics, and dynamic shooting dynamics that will keep players on the edge of their seats.

What sets Unholy apart is its innovative combat system, which revolves around the utilization of four distinct emotions: anger, shock, sadness, and desire. Players can harness these emotions to interact with the environment, such as destroying obstacles, triggering mechanisms, overloading circuits, or illuminating their path. Additionally, these emotions can be employed to confuse, lure, or inflict harm upon adversaries encountered throughout the game.

In the twisted world of Unholy, masks play a pivotal role. Every inhabitant hides behind a mask, and it is often the determining factor between life and death. Players have the opportunity to craft their own masks, acquiring new skills and enhancing their abilities. Alternatively, they can wear other masks to infiltrate and deceive enemies, skillfully impersonating opponents in a chilling game of cat and mouse.

Unholy will make its debut on PC on July 20th, offering an immersive and hair-raising experience for horror game enthusiasts. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X versions of the game will be released at a later date, ensuring that a wider audience can partake in the bone-chilling journey. As the release date draws near, players can brace themselves for the unveiling of the truth behind the horrors that await in Unholy’s dark and foreboding world.
