Free-to-Play Arena FPS with Crossplay Capability Launches with Five Factions Inspired by Ubisoft Franchises
Today marks the global launch of XDefiant, a free-to-play, fast-paced arcade shooter developed by Ubisoft San Francisco. This game features factions inspired by some of Ubisoft’s most beloved franchises. Players can now download and enjoy XDefiant for free on PC via Ubisoft Connect, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
After extensive betas and open tests, players can dive into the full preseason content that XDefiant offers, which includes:
- 14 maps inspired by other Ubisoft titles
- Five factions (one faction to be earned or purchased)
- 24 weapons
- 44 attachments
- Five devices
Factions and Characters
Players can choose from five Ubisoft franchise-inspired factions: The Cleaners (The Division), Libertad (Far Cry 6), Echelon (Splinter Cell), DedSec (Watch Dogs 2), and Phantoms (Ghost Recon Phantoms). Each faction includes three characters, with only one initially unlocked. The others can be unlocked by completing in-game missions.
Game Modes and Matches
XDefiant offers two main game modes: Arena and Linear.
Arena-Style Matches
- Domination: Teams fight to control three fixed zones.
- Occupy: Teams battle to control one zone that moves periodically around the map.
- HotShot: Players aim for the most KOs. Points are awarded when players collect tags from fallen foes or allies. The player holding the most tags becomes the HotShot, gaining speed buffs but being marked on the map for all to see.
Linear Matches
- Zone Control: The attacking team works to secure five zones in succession across the map, while defenders try to stop them.
- Escort: The attacking team must transport a package to its final destination across the map, while defenders attempt to halt their progress and push the package back.
