Twitch Viewership Dips to 1.64 Billion Hours in April
The latest StreamElements report indicates that Twitch users watched 1.64 billion hours of livestreamed content in April 2024. This represents a 7% decrease from March’s adjusted total of 1.77 billion hours. Daily viewing hours also fell by 5%, from 57 million to 55 million hours per day.
Key Reasons for the Decline
April was notably quiet in terms of major game releases and events, which contributed to the decline in viewership. Despite this, the Just Chatting category led with 238 million hours watched, followed by Grand Theft Auto 5 with 128 million hours.
Notable Increases
Rust experienced a significant surge in viewership, with a 227% increase in hours watched thanks to its Waves of Change update, bringing its total to 27 million hours. Call of Duty Warzone also saw an uptick, reaching 33 million hours watched.
Top Streamers
Jynxzi stood out by becoming the first creator to be a top streamer twice in 2024, joining other recurring top streamers like xQc, Gaules, KaiCenat, and fps_shaka.
Streaming Trends and Insights
The overall decline in Twitch viewership is part of broader trends in the streaming industry. Consumers are increasingly diversifying their viewing habits across various platforms, which impacts individual services like Twitch. Despite the drop, Twitch remains a dominant platform in the gaming livestreaming space, particularly as it adapts to changes under new leadership with Dan Clancy as CEO.
