9 Years of Shadows, a pixel art Metroidvania game from developer Halberd Studios and publisher Freedom Games, is now available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game will be released on the Nintendo Switch in Q3 of 2023.
In this game, darkness and despair have enveloped the entire world, robbing all living creatures of hope. Europa, a young warrior donning elemental armor, teams up with a ghostly teddy bear named Apino to dispel the cursed black-and-white cloud that hangs over the realm. Together, they must find the source of the curse within Castle Talos and restore the world’s vibrant colors.
9 Years of Shadows features rhythmic boss battles and enemies that are sensitive to elemental weaknesses, which players can exploit by switching between Helios, Gaia, and Poseidon armor. The game also includes an expansive map filled with hidden areas and secrets.
Players will be drawn into the game’s pixel art style, inspired by classic games in the Metroidvania genre, and the relaxing 432hz soundtrack composed by Michiru Yamane (known for the Castlevania series) and Norihiko Hibino (known for the Metal Gear Solid series).
The game is available in English and Spanish language support and costs $19.99 USD on Steam and Epic Games Store. Fans of the Metroidvania genre should not miss the chance to join Europa and Apino in their quest to restore color to the world.
