Team17 and PlaySide Studios have announced Flames of Retribution, the most extensive update to date for their award-winning survival RTS, Age of Darkness: Final Stand. Launching on April 19, the update will include the first seven of 10 fully voiced campaign chapters, a new hero, Merek Longhold, for Survival Mode, and various game updates.
Merek, also known as “The Bolstering Might,” is the latest Hero to join The Order in Survival Mode. Armed with a massive halberd, this close-combat specialist is a formidable figure on the battlefield. Although he portrays himself as a paragon of law and order, Merek has been known to show some moral flexibility when it benefits his ambitions and financial gain.
Age of Darkness: Final Stand is set in a dark fantasy world where humanity’s remnants make a last stand against the relentless hordes of Nightmares, monstrous creatures lurking in the fog of war called “The Veil.” The game features proprietary SwarmTech technology, enabling the rendering of up to 70,000 models on screen at once—three times more than its competitors—and procedurally generated maps and randomized rewards, ensuring each final stand is unique.
The Flames of Retribution update follows two previous content updates released during Early Access: Queen’s Fury in November 2021 and Rebellion’s Rise in December 2022. These updates introduced new production units and heroes to the game. The remaining chapters of the campaign will be released later in 2023.
