Ankama, the studio behind the successful DOFUS and WAKFU MMOs, has officially announced the upcoming release of its new tactical RPG, WAVEN, in 2023. The game will be free-to-play and available on Windows PCs, Macs, and tablets and smartphones running iOS or Android, allowing players to experience a unique cross-platform adventure.
Set in a flooded world with only a few surviving islands, players will assume the role of seafaring adventurers searching for answers to the world’s great upheaval. Long ago, gods and dragons ruled the world, but only magic remains today. WAVEN, Ankama’s ambitious new production, offers a fresh perspective on the tactical multiplayer RPG universe.
WAVEN introduces an innovative combination of adventure and turn-based strategy, drawing inspiration from the best tactical RPGs while incorporating deckbuilding mechanics and valuable items to collect. Players can sail from island to island in a vast, vibrant world full of colorful creatures, gaining power, refining their strategy, and uncovering the secrets of a world adrift.
Accessible, fun, and immersive, WAVEN enables players to face off against increasingly challenging burlesque monsters, either alone or with friends. By mastering the elements, casting powerful spells, summoning mythical companions, and engaging enemies in close or ranged combat, players can defeat their foes and obtain a wealth of loot.
As players gain experience, they can upgrade their hero, defend their “Haven Island” from attacks by other players in a new asynchronous mode, or enter the “Kolossium” to challenge other players and become a legend.
Anthony Roux, creative director and CEO of Ankama, expressed immense belief in the ambitious project, stating that the studio is eager to present WAVEN to as many people as possible in its best version. Ankama and New Tales will co-publish the game, with early access planned for this summer before a worldwide free-to-play release in late 2023.
One of the unique features of WAVEN is its cross-platform capability. Players can continue their adventures seamlessly by switching from one platform to another using the same account on Windows PCs, Macs, and smartphones and tablets running iOS or Android.
