This is our first look at a product from the Taiwanese peripheral company Brook a subsidiary of Zeroplus Technology. Aside from their wide assortment of peripherals they also manufacture retro consoles, hardware to help you catch Pokémon and other various gaming-related products. The Vivid wireless Nintendo Switch controller is also compatible with PC, Mac, IOS, Android, PlayStation, or any other Bluetooth devices. It features multi-function buttons, an instant shoot mode to lower sensitivity, paddle buttons, and a turbo mode with adjustable combo frequency priced at $40.
Vivid comes in two colors which are an aqua blue two-tone and a sunshine yellow two-tone which I would descried as “cute” looking. Brook applies a methodology to the Vivid controller design that is more suitable for females and children due to Switch’s player base metrics. It’s a very comfortable controller; the concave area where your index finger rests is more exaggerated, making it feel more relaxed. The whole controller is built with a slight arc that gives it a soft feeling when holding it in your hands. Not a whole lot of extra buttons aside from the two paddles on the back.
At $40 were not expecting this controller to shock the world with adjustability and performance features but it doesn’t come up empty. Turbo mode allows you to spam buttons with 3 different settings offering you five presses a second, ten a second, or fifteen a second. You can also create macros that record up to 25 button combinations. Finally, a shooting mode that will toggle your joystick sensitivity a the flick of a switch. You will also enjoy an adjustable vibration that reacts to environmental behavior. Honestly, I can’t say I know of another controller this affordable with these types of features.
In the box, you will find the power cord, some extra tops for your joysticks, and a set of random anime stickers. Then a massive gem, a rig to dock your mobile device to the controller. This is so huge I have seen companies do so much less at so much higher price points. I wouldn’t have been surprised to find a case somewhere inside the box but that was just wishful thinking. Looking at this from a value prospective the box is plenty full!
If you have big hands this controller might not be for you. Also, the battery life is a bit on the lower side at 10 hours so you will need to stay on top of keeping it charged. Whenever I say something negative about this controller, I have to remind myself of all these extra features Brook has included at such a low price. I would buy this controller all day for my kids and never worry about breaking it. This product is well worth the price! This is mad legit Brook, keep doing what you’re doing.
