GamesAid appoints New Vice Chair

UK games industry charity GamesAid is pleased to announce our new Vice Chair Des to support us through 2019 and beyond.

GamesAid would like to send a massive thank you to Christian-Peter Heimbach as his Vice Chair position comes to an end.

Since joining GamesAid, his commitment to the charity has seen him continue to use his marketing expertise to support a variety of GamesAid projects including Digital For Good, which allows gaming companies to donate digital content to support the charity and Humble Bundle, an online store selling a collection of games sold a price with a proportion of the money going towards a charity.

He has also been involved with many talks about GamesAid at events such as Brighton’s Develop Conference and has helped organise prizes for many fundraising events. Christian has also been the driving force behind designing GamesAid’s new logo as well as building the framework for the charity’s new website.

Thank you to Christian for all his support over the past year, he will be truly missed and we wish all the best in the future.

Christian-Peter Heimbach said,“I am honoured and humbled to have been able to volunteer among the many friends and great industry leaders that make and made GamesAid what it is today. I am happy to hand over to Des who is deeply subscribed to the success of GamesAid. He will help our Charities, Chair and Trustees to reach new heights with GamesAid. I would like to personally thank Matt, the Chair, all Trustees and of course all volunteers and charities for their truly remarkable work and the opportunity to have been so intimately involved.”

GamesAid’s Trustee Des Gayle has been voted in as the new Vice Chair by the Board of Trustees. Des takes over from Christian-Peter Heimbach, who’s fixed term came to an end in December. Des is a video game producer with decades of experience, having previously worked with the likes of EA, Microsoft, Crytek and Square Enix. Since joining GamesAid in 2015, Des has helped raise an enormous amount of money for the charity. His commitment has seen him cycle a distance of 300 miles from London to Paris and cycled 60km around Berlin in 2 hours. Des has also been elected as a member of the UKIE board.

GamesAid is excited to move forward with Des as its new Vice Chair.

Des Gayle said:

“My three-year tenure as trustee was due to end in 2018. However, I enjoyed my time with the charity so much that I requested another three-year term, which was successful. I’m honoured to be inheriting the vice chair position from Christian. I feel privileged to be able to continue his great work. I’m excited to help drive the charity forward in 2019 and beyond.”

GamesAid is a UK based video games charity (Registered UK Charity #1081706) which acts as an umbrella to support a number of smaller charities who help disadvantaged and disabled children and young people. It is a non-trading body, administered by Trustees who operate on a fixed term basis run by a chair who is also appointed on a fixed term. As the only fully democratic charity in the games space, members of the games industry propose and vote for the charities of their choice annually.
