Gen.G Esports Inks Long-Term Contract with League of Legends Star Athlete ‘Ruler’

Gen.G Esports announced today Park ‘Ruler’ Jae-hyuk, the Gen.G League of Legends star player and 2018 Asian Games national team member, has agreed to an industry leading 3-year guaranteed contract with Gen.G. The contract shows Gen.G’s confidence in his accomplishments, potential and signifies Ruler’s career as one of the best esports athletes in the world.

Ruler

Ruler started his esports career as a member of team Samsung Galaxy (now team Gen.G League of Legend) in 2016. He was a key player as the team ranked second in the 2016 League of Legends World Championship and won Intel Extreme Masters Season XII. As Gen.G took over the team Samsung Galaxy, Ruler became a member of Gen.G and has continuously proven himself to be a star athlete as he won the 2017 League of Legends World Championship and was named the MVP. In 2018, he ranked second in place in XVIII Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 and the 2018 LoL KeSPA Cup. He recently participated in the 2019 LCK season and continued to show outstanding capabilities as the leading damage dealer and MVP vote getter on the team.

“This decision wasn’t tough at all. Ruler deserves one of the best offers in the world because he’s one of the best players in the world,” says Gen.G Esports COO, Arnold Hur. “His leadership and character are outstanding, and we’re just getting started on the team we can build around him with the goal to build a championship-level roster into 2020. We know the contract is longer than most players would normally agree to, but we worked closely with him to show our commitment to his development for the long run and most importantly our organization’s ability to build a championship-level roster. Arnold added, “Despite the tough season where we missed worlds, we feel confident that players will see us as a premiere free agency destination that supports and puts players and their development first.”

“I want to express immense gratitude to my fans, coaches and family, especially my parents who’ve supported me my entire life,” said Ruler. “I’m not going to rest though. My dream is to perform on the world stage in front of my parents, so I promise I will lead the team and advance next year to the League of Legend World Championships.”
