Understanding the Latest Gameplay Adjustments and Vanguard Implementation

The League of Legends development team has shared insights in their latest Dev Update video, featuring Jeremy “Riot Brightmoon” Lee, Pu “Riot Pupulasers” Liu, and Matthew “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison. This article unpacks the update, offering a straightforward look at gameplay changes, player rank adjustments, anti-cheat efforts, and upcoming content.

Gameplay and Ranking System Tweaks

The transition of gameplay changes to coincide with the season’s start, rather than the preseason, has been positively received by the League team. They acknowledge, however, that recent item adjustments inadvertently increased burst damage beyond preferred levels. Efforts are underway to recalibrate damage outputs to post-Durability Update figures.

Ranking experiences are set to improve, addressing an issue where about half of Emerald-ranked players and 85% of Master and above faced prolonged periods of negative LP gains last season. These occurrences have been significantly reduced to around 5%, aiming for a smoother ranking climb this season. Additional bug fixes have been implemented to prevent new players from incorrectly placing in high ranks, with ongoing improvements to distinguish new players from smurfs more accurately.

Vanguard’s Role in Combatting Cheating

The introduction of Vanguard, League’s tailored anti-cheat system, focuses on targeting in-game cheaters, scripters, and bots. Initially, Vanguard will be deployed in a single region to monitor its impact on the player base carefully, ensuring its effectiveness and player satisfaction.

Upcoming Content and Skins

The development team has also announced several upcoming additions to the game:

  • New Bots: Detailed in today’s dev blog, players can soon expect new intro, beginner, and intermediate bots, enhancing the learning curve for newcomers.
  • Prestige Skins: Yuumi and Leona are set to receive Prestige skins in July, adding to the game’s extensive skin collection.
  • Mythic Theme: March will see the debut of Crystalis Indomitus, a new Mythic theme. Kha’Zix, Xerath, and Nautilus will be among the first champions to receive these skins, with Kha’Zix leading the rollout.
  • April Surprises: The team teases “a few cheesy surprises” slated for April, sparking curiosity among the community.

Latest Prestige and Mythic Skin Updates from the League of Legends Skins Team

Stephanie “100 pc nuggets” Leung, the skins team’s product lead, has shared exciting details about the next set of Prestige skins and the Mythic Shop’s upcoming rotations. Additionally, a fresh Mythic Essence theme, Crystalis Indomitus, is set to enrich the League of Legends universe.

Crystalis Indomitus delves into the “Magicae Prismatica” Alternate Universe, unveiling the wild, untamed lands north of civilization. This realm is dominated by creatures transformed and controlled by crystal power, having lost almost all memories of their former selves. Their sole purpose now is to extend their crystalline corruption. As these creatures advance, the various factions of Crystalis Motus brace for an impending war.

Scheduled Champions for Crystalis Indomitus Skins:

  • Kha’Zix in March
  • Xerath in June
  • Nautilus in August
