11 bit studios has entered the chat and they’re not alone. The game studio, known for breaking molds, is teaming up with Odd Meter to drop their debut title, INDIKA. The game promises to be a narrative-adventure powerhouse, taking players on a trip through an alternate version of 19th-century Russia.
You’re not just button-mashing in INDIKA; you’re delving into big-brain themes like good vs evil, sin, and morality. Players step into the shoes of Indika, a nun trying to navigate a world that challenges societal norms. The gameplay blends the fun of exploration with environmental puzzles and just a sprinkle of platforming, creating a package that’s more like an interactive art-house film than your typical Saturday night gaming sesh.
Behind the Curtain: Odd Meter’s Challenging Path
The collab between 11 bit studios and Odd Meter started well before current world events put a strain on international relations, particularly Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The political climate added new layers of difficulty to an already challenging venture. Dmitry Svetlow, the big brain behind Odd Meter, elaborated on the struggles. Odd Meter had to relocate their whole 16-person squad from Russia to Kazakhstan amidst the ongoing crisis.
However, these obstacles haven’t impacted the creative spirit of the game. “We didn’t interfere with the game content, its theme, or the story that bravely touches on topics that are almost entirely absent from games up to now,” says Rufus Kubica of 11 bit studios.
