Square Enix has announced that the HD-2D RPG, LIVE A LIVE, is launching on PlayStation 5 (PS5), PlayStation 4 (PS4), and PC via Steam on April 27th, 2023. Originally released on the Nintendo Switch last year as a critically acclaimed HD-2D remake, LIVE A LIVE is a story-driven RPG developed by Team Asano, renowned for their work on Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default II, and Triangle Strategy.
LIVE A LIVE offers players the opportunity to explore eight distinct stories featuring eight different characters, each set within various time periods ranging from prehistoric times to the Wild West and beyond. Each unique chapter presents players with a variety of gameplay mechanics to master, such as stealth, suspense, and trap placement, all revolving around the game’s turn-based battle system. The episodic story format enables players to tailor their gameplay adventure to their preferences, allowing them to complete each chapter in any order they choose or even play through multiple chapters simultaneously.
Produced by Takashi Tokita (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV), the original game director of the Super Nintendo version, LIVE A LIVE has been revitalized using HD-2D technology, blending pixel art nostalgia with modern graphics. This updated release offers classic RPG gameplay combined with visually enhanced experiences on PS4, PS5, and PC. Additionally, players can enjoy a rearranged version of the game’s soundtrack, recreated under the supervision of the original composer, Yoko Shimomura (Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts series).
A free playable demo is now available for download from the PlayStation Store and Steam. The LIVE A LIVE demo features the opening sections of three of the eight stories in the game: The Wild West, Twilight of Edo Japan, and The Distant Future. Upon purchasing the full version of the game, PlayStation and Steam players can transfer their saved progress from the demo, allowing them to continue their gameplay experience from where they left off.
LIVE A LIVE will be available digitally on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam on April 27th, 2023. Players can pre-order the game from the PlayStation Store or Steam starting today. A 20% off introductory discount is available for PlayStation Plus members who pre-order the game before the launch on April 27, 2023, and for Steam players who purchase the game before May 11th, 2023.
