Auckland, New Zealand – At ExileCon 2023, Grinding Gear Games, the developer behind the popular Action RPG Path of Exile, revealed exciting new details about their upcoming title, Path of Exile 2. The event, dedicated to celebrating the game’s passionate community, brought forth a range of announcements, including the announcement of a Closed Beta scheduled for June 7th.
Returning to the Dark World of Wraeclast
Set in the same dark and corrupt world of Wraeclast, years after the events of the original Path of Exile, the sequel promises an immersive experience with an intense quest to eradicate the spreading corruption. Path of Exile 2 stands as a separate free-to-play online multiplayer game, not an expansion of its predecessor. It will feature online co-op gameplay for up to six players.

At ExileCon, Grinding Gear Games treated the audience with various content showcases, including a captivating gameplay trailer, a cinematic trailer, and a live demonstration of an Act Three segment from Path of Exile 2.
Key Features of Path of Exile 2
- A Dark Fantasy World Unraveled: Following the defeat of Kitava, Wraeclast’s society has been rebuilding, but Corruption has begun to resurface, driven by a ghastly living Seed that induces madness. The game boasts a brand new campaign comprising six acts, 100 distinct environments, and an impressive roster of 600 monsters and 100 bosses.
- Twelve Character Classes: Path of Exile 2 introduces a dozen character classes, two for each combination of Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence attributes. Players can combine skills from different classes to create their unique character builds. Each of the twelve classes also offers three Ascendancy specializations, resulting in a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes to choose from.
- Enhanced Skill Gem System: With 240 Skill Gems providing potent active skills and 200 Support Gems that modify their behaviors, players can craft their perfect character build. The new system allows Support Gems to be socketed directly into Skill Gems, eliminating the previous frustrations while maintaining depth. Now, players can link up to six support gems to each skill their character uses.
- Dual Specialisation in Passive Skill Tree: The iconic Passive Skill Tree makes a comeback with over 2,000 skills, enabling players to tailor their gameplay experience. The new system introduces Dual Specialisation, allowing players to allocate some passive skill points to two different sets of skills. Depending on the weapon or skill type used, the appropriate skill points will apply, facilitating specialization in multiple areas without sacrificing opportunity.
- All-new Items and Endgame Exploration: Path of Exile 2 offers 700 equipment base types, each featuring a unique item that players can find. The game includes new weapons such as Spears, Crossbows, and Flails, as well as supplementary items like Focuses, Traps, and redesigned Sceptres. After completing the six-act campaign, players will unlock the endgame with over 100 maps, each with its own boss fight and modifiers. The endgame also brings back revamped versions of past leagues, providing an exciting and varied post-campaign experience.
