Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Update: Adding Content and Fixing a Major Issue in the Future

As of March 26th, Rockstar has released another update for Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer mode — Red Dead Online. There’s a major update coming this spring but they decided to push it out. Filled with an assortment of new features, gamers can expect additional clothing options to buy and wear as well as a brand new competitive mode called “Target Races.”

According to Rockstar, they describe Target Races as “a fast-paced mix of marksmanship, strategy, and horse-riding skills.” Each player begins with a bow and arrow, and the objective is to shoot targets as you race across the track. You will be able to pick up guns with limited ammo along the way and use them to shoot targets as well as other players.

On the PlayStation side of things, players will have early access to “Open Target Races.” In this mode variation, you are racing in an open environment while shooting targets. These can be hit in any particular order you wish. Once you do, you race against other players to the finish line. Currently, this mode is only available to PS4 owners but it will be coming to Xbox One next month (thanks in part to Rockstar’s timed exclusivity deal with Sony).

As mentioned earlier, the new gaming modes aren’t the only highlights of the latest update as character apparel was added as well. The following pieces have been included:

  • Morning Tailcoat
  • Strickland Boots
  • Bowyer Boots (Female only)
  • Furred Gloves

To wrap up this update, Rockstar is giving players a 20% XP boost in all activities this week plus 25% off all horse care items.

Rockstar has two more Showdown modes set to release later this year called “Up in Smoke” and “Plunder” … so keep an eye out for those. They are working hard to add a hostility system to deal with all the griefing in Online as well as new Land of Opportunities missions, more Free Roam missions, dynamic events (such as ambushes and rescues), and more.

Personally, I like what’s coming out now for Red Dead Online. As of late, when I log onto my PS4 to see how the community is doing, it’s not very active. Hopefully, this update will attract some new people to play the game and bring some gamers back. Dealing with the griefing though, that’s a problem in both Red Dead Online and GTA Online. I’m honestly surprised Rockstar didn’t add this in sooner (with them getting a good idea of how bad the griefing would be thanks to GTA Online over the years) with it being such a problem. Granted, it’s better late than never, and hopefully, it will work so players can enjoy their time in Red Dead Online with their friends. The only thing that’s missing is a Heist variation for the game. Players can already enter the banks but can’t rob them … yet. Hopefully, that too will be a mode coming in the future for everyone to enjoy. Besides, who doesn’t love robbing a bank in-game with friends?
