Indie developer Courtesy of Endo and publisher ESDigital Games have released the first major update for their roguelike action RPG, Scholar of the Arcane Arts. Titled the Necromancy Update, this expansion introduces a new dungeon, seven new enemies, and five new spells, along with other minor enhancements. One of the game’s key features is its ability to let players combine up to 10,000 spells from five schools of magic, including Hydromancy, Pyromancy, Geomancy, Necromancy, and Aeromancy.
Available on Steam Early Access for $3.99 / €3.99, Scholar of the Arcane Arts has also made its debut on the Epic Games Store in Early Access.
The Necromancy Update brings the following additions and adjustments to the game:
- New Dungeon: Players may encounter a new Gateway during their run, leading to the Eldritch Domain and the newly added Catacombs. This realm of death and decay is populated with undead creatures, presenting a challenge for players to overcome.
- Seven New Enemies: The update introduces Warden, Zombie, Obsidian, Marko, Wraith, Lich, and MasterEye as new adversaries to face.
- Five New Spells: Death Drain, Ethereal Form, Soul Link, Null Hour, and Absorbing Eye are the latest spells added to the game, expanding players’ arsenals and allowing for more strategic spell combinations.
- Additional Improvements: The update also includes enhancements to older spells, town building updates, gameplay updates, Steam achievements, and bug fixes.
ESDigital Games and Courtesy of Endo are launching a Twitter contest using the hashtag #BecomeScholar, which encourages players to mix and match the new Necromancy Update spells with those from the game’s initial build. The month-long contest will reward the top three players who discover as many combinations as possible with Steam keys for ESDigital games.
Scholar of the Arcane Arts promises a captivating dark fantasy experience with hand-drawn pixel art and modern shaders. Players can explore procedurally generated worlds, solve puzzles, complete dungeons, and find powerful spells while taking on formidable Demi-gods from various magical realms.
