Today Asmodee Digital and Fantasy Flight Interactive announced the release of the first in a series of new missions, known as Encounters, for The Lord of the Rings™: Living Card Game™ on SteamTM for PC and Mac. The first of many to come, this Encounter is an ultra-hard mission that will challenge even the best of players. Entitled, The King Of Carrion, the Encounter is available for free today for all players. In it, players will guide their Heroes through a standalone Quest that will take them to the far reaches of the Andúin and beyond, battling new enemies such as Moonlight Wights as well as returning foes such as the fearsome wargs. The Encounter’s icon will now appear on the map of Middle-earth in the Play menu.
In addition to the release of The King Of Carrion Encounter, recently, Asmodee Digital and Fantasy Flight Interactive announced plans to shift the game’s economic model from free-to-play to a full premium model once the game goes into full release. Fantasy Flight Interactive’s Timothy Gerritsen had this to say about the decision, “We received a lot of constructive feedback from our communities and decided to make a change to improve the game for the community as a whole. In addition, we will continue to roll out plenty of content in the future.”
The full game will come with a suite of cards, in-game currency, and custom cosmetic items that will start adventurers off on their quest through Middle-earth.
The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game tasks players with leading a fellowship of three heroes through a series of narrative campaigns across Middle-earth as they face off against the dark forces of Sauron. Players will forge their own fellowships and build decks comprised of ally, event, and equipment cards to face challenges that test their spirit, lore, tactics, and leadership.
