PlaySide Studios and Team17 have released Flames of Retribution, the latest and most expansive update for their dark fantasy survival real-time strategy game, Age of Darkness: Final Stand. This update introduces Act I and Act II of Final Stand, the game’s long-awaited campaign mode, as well as a new hero, Merek, for The Order in Survival Mode. Additionally, the update brings improvements to Survival Mode gameplay.
In Flames of Retribution, players will venture into the grim world of Erodar, unveiling secrets hidden behind The Veil. The campaign features a prologue and seven engaging missions, where players confront a mix of human and Nightmare monsters. Furthermore, PlaySide Studios and Team17 have announced an upcoming content update, Exile’s Return, slated for release later this year. This update will conclude the campaign and introduce a new aggressive hero for Survival Mode.
The new hero, Merek, comes equipped with various abilities:
- Drinks on Me! (Level 1): This passive skill activates when Merek takes sufficient damage, healing nearby allies for 5% of his maximum HP. When Merek’s Ultimate, Holy Protector, is active, Drinks on Me! also heals Merek.
- Crushing Weight (Level 2): This active skill enables Merek to leap forward and slam into the ground, damaging and stunning enemies within an area of effect. Merek regains armor for each Nightmare defeated, scaling with his level.
- Halberd Hurricane (Level 4): Merek’s destructive Halberd Hurricane skill involves sweeping his weapon in a 360-degree arc, damaging all units within the area. When Merek defeats an enemy using this skill, there is a chance to activate Drinks on Me! The number of times Halberd Hurricane can be used in quick succession increases as Merek levels up, with the time required to store each use decreasing per level.
- Holy Protector (Level 6): This skill allows Merek to temporarily grant nearby allies armor equal to his maximum and recover damaged armor. It applies even to units that don’t ordinarily have armor. While Merek’s Ultimate is active, Drinks on Me! also restores his health. Holy Protector temporarily increases the area of effect for Merek’s other skills.
Age of Darkness: Final Stand’s Flames of Retribution update delivers an immersive campaign experience and introduces Merek, a new hero with a unique skill set. Players can now dive into the dark world of Erodar and enjoy the strategic challenges offered by the game’s Survival Mode.
