Cooler Master SK622 Wireless 60% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Summary
As a 60% keyboard the Cooler Mater SK622 is able to stay in the daily lifestyle use category due to its second ALT system allowing it to have most keys a full-size keyboard does. This SK622 hybrid gaming keyboard features Bluetooth wireless capability, mechanical linear red switches, N-key rollover technology, and an On-the-fly RGB adjustment System. Cooler Master does list a significant drop-in polling rate from 1000 Hz in Wired mode to 125 Hz Bluetooth mode. While in wireless mode it's definitely no slouch but, you will notice a slight drop in performance compared to other keyboards at this price point. When plugged into a hardline cable the SK622 does perform at an Esports quality level. I would like to see this keyboard priced around $89 - $99 but if the wireless feature is that important to your application it might be worth the $119.99.
Good
  • RGB on-the-fly system
  • Hardline cable option
  • Virtually every key a full size keyboard has
Bad
  • Plastic bottom less durable
  • Priced too high

60% keyboards are hands down the best keyboards for competitive FPS players. We need that arm room for our low DPI mouse settings. The Cooler Mater SK622 however is still in the daily lifestyle use category due to its second ALT system allowing it to have most keys a full-size keyboard does. This SK622 hybrid gaming keyboard features Bluetooth wireless capability, mechanical linear red switches, N-key rollover technology, and an On-the-fly RGB adjustment System priced at $119.99.

A very sleek modern design is what you’re going to get out of this tiny little keyboard. Its top plate is a black brushed aluminum which looks stellar! The SK622 does however unfortunately have a plastic bottom shell which takes away from its durability. It feels a bit like a toy compared to other keyboards in this price range. The keyboard weighs in at an ultralight 446 grams, this in combination with its size makes it an almost perfect pocket piece. Cooler Master features what they call an ergonomic keycap on the SK622. “It hits different”. Some keys are a bit larger they also have a softer feel when you press them which does in fact make them more comfortable. You get your choice of switch hardware with the TTC Low Profile Mechanical Switches in either Red, Blue, or Brown. You can also connect via a hardline cable if you are planted at home at your battle station.

I think what we are most concerned about is the drop in performance when running on the 4.0 Bluetooth connection. Cooler Master does list a significant drop-in polling rate from 1000 Hz in Wired mode to 125 Hz Bluetooth mode. While in wireless mode it’s definitely no slouch but, you will notice a slight drop in performance compared to other keyboards at this price point. When plugged into a hardline cable the SK622 does perform at an Esports quality level. It really breaks down to your application and what the wireless feature means to your setup. As most gaming keyboards do feature it comes equipped with anti-ghosting N-key rollover technology ensuring every keystroke is detected. Some 60% keyboards do not come with the option to use keys like INS, PGUP, PGDN, and in some cases even the arrow keys. With SK622 you still have access to most of these buttons through the cooler master logo ALT key allowing you to use it for daily lifestyle applications.

At this price point, I would expect the keyboard to be RGB loaded. It features external per-key 16.7 million RGB backlighting along with a lightbar strip all the way around the sides of the frame. You do not need to install the MasterPlus+ software to adjust the RGB due to its onboard on-the-fly system. Nevertheless, I do recommend installing the MasterPlus+ software it is one of the better systems on the market. You are going to be paying a bit more for the wireless feature on the SK622. I would like to see this keyboard priced around $89 – $99 but if the wireless feature is that important to your application it might be worth the $119.99.
