Gearbox Entertainment has announced the launch of Gearbox Gives, a new initiative aimed at organizing and directing the company’s philanthropic efforts to utilize the power of entertainment for educational, inspirational, and creative purposes. Gearbox Gives will encompass the company’s educational and philanthropic programs, as well as its community partnerships and initiatives.
Randy Pitchford, founder of both Gearbox Gives and Gearbox Entertainment, expressed the company’s long-standing commitment to using their platform and entertainment for good. As Gearbox has grown over the years, the launch of Gearbox Gives will enable them to expand its impact on the world.
Aaron Thibault, Vice President of Strategic Operations at Gearbox, will serve as the executive director of Gearbox Gives. Thibault has previously led the development of partnerships with local higher education institutions, facilitated a mentorship program for high school students, and served as the Strategic Leadership Committee Chair on the Workforce Solutions of North Central Texas board. Thibault has also been instrumental in developing a video game-based STEM curriculum in the Longview Independent School District in Texas and remotely teaching game design and programming to students in Nairobi, Kenya.
Gearbox Gives will focus on supporting communities locally and globally, increasing access to high-quality STEM education, and advancing philanthropic efforts. Gearbox Entertainment has a rich history of utilizing its platform, games, and resources to promote social causes. Notable projects include Borderlands Science, which aids in mapping the human gut microbiome; providing video game-based STEM education to students across the globe; raising funds to purchase personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic; and supporting reforestation initiatives.
Both Direct Relief, an international humanitarian organization, and Longview Independent School District have expressed gratitude for Gearbox’s support and look forward to witnessing the continued impact of Gearbox Gives in the future.
