Lenovo Legion 7 Slim Gen 7 AMD Gaming Laptop Review

Summary
Now Legion delivers the next generation of AMD gaming laptops in its new slim look. A 16” 1560 x 1600 165Hz IPS display wrapped by an all dark grey slim case running on Windows 10 home premium edition. This specific model features an AMD Ryzen 6900HX 3.3GHz processor, an AMD Radeon RX 6800S graphics card, 16GB of DDR5 ram, and a 1TB M.2 SSD starting at $1279.99. . So far, I have had nothing but compliments for the minimalist stealthy dark grey look Legion is known to exude. I am super disappointed there is no RGB lighting anywhere on this model including the keyboard. Expect to play any triple A title on this machine without any lag or graphical issues. A top-quality portable gaming experience well worth its price.

We absolutely had a blast testing the Legion 7i in our previous review! Now Legion delivers the next generation of AMD gaming laptops in its new slim look. A 16” 2560 x 1600 165Hz IPS display wrapped by an all dark grey slim case running on Windows 10 home premium edition powers this PC. This specific model features an AMD Ryzen 6900HX 3.3GHz processor, an AMD Radeon RX 6800S graphics card, 16GB of DDR5 ram, and a 1TB M.2 SSD starting at $1279.99.

These laptops look like something out of a spy movie. So far, I have had nothing but compliments for the minimalist stealthy dark grey look Legion is known to exude. This new slim version, however, is noticeably thinner than the normal version. Honestly, it’s really hard to imagine until you hold it in your own hands. How on earth is a laptop this thin able to stay cool while playing triple A titles? Legion’s new Coldfront 4.0 thermal systems and Vapor Chamber technology which is not only cooler than previously but now even quieter.

You will find two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports on its left side, an SD Card reader, and a headphone/microphone combo on the right. In the rear, the Legion 7 Slim is equipped with two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and of course the power input. I am super disappointed there is no RGB lighting anywhere on this model including the keyboard. Its keyboard does have plain white backlighting but does not support any type of RGB customization (Can be upgraded at purchase). You will be able to enjoy a 1080p webcam which we have been asking for in our previous reviews for some time now! Finally, you have a solid onboard sound system for those who don’t use headphones (These people exist?) with 2 x 2W Harman speakers powered by Nahimic Audio.

I just want to start by saying this laptop can play any triple A title in its own ecosystem (No external monitor). AMD has been the leader in processing power for some time now, so rest assured you are getting an extremely powerful processor in the AMD Ryzen 6900HX. On the graphics side in this specific AMD generation, you are not going to get as much performance compared to Nvidia (This could change soon). We used the Assassins Creed Valhalla benchmark system to put this gaming laptop to the test.

Benchmark results:

At no point during the benchmark test did fan noise overpower the experience. It stayed cool under pressure and delivered a solid performance. If you are looking for a higher frame rate you can always lower the graphics quality. Expect to play any triple A title on this machine without any lag or graphical issues. I am having a hard time understanding why this model does not have an onboard ethernet port though. I am just going to assume it’s too thin to support one. You will get a 6GHz WiFi 6 in its place which is currently the fastest on the market today. It’s a very stable connection and will be more than enough for most genres. If you play competitive fighting games, however, this will not be sufficient. You can pick up an ethernet adapter that will support gigabyte internet for around $30 but it will take up a USB port (Highly recommended).

Legion has a phenomenal customer support system that is available 24/7. Starting at $1279.99 you also will have options to upgrade the hardware up to a $1949.99 price point. The Legion 7 Slim Gen 7 AMD provides a top-quality portable gaming experience well worth its price.
