Capcom has released a remake of the original Resident Evil 4 that was first released in 2005. The new version of Resident Evil 4, reimagined for 2023, retains the essence of the original game while incorporating modernized gameplay, an updated storyline, and vivid graphics using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine. Resident Evil 4 is now available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5), and Xbox Series X|S for $59.99.
Players take on the role of Leon S. Kennedy, who is sent to rescue the President’s daughter, Ashley Graham, from a cult of Los Iluminados that has taken over a secluded European village. The game’s environment includes an ancient castle, mines, and more, with infected villagers, deranged cultists, and other enemies empowered by the Las Plagas parasite. Players must survive while navigating through puzzles and secrets scattered throughout the game.
In addition to introducing modern videogame design techniques and state-of-the-art graphics, the development team also added nuance to the characters and relationships within Resident Evil 4. The gameplay changes include more meaningful player choices, such as being able to customize Leon’s attaché case beyond just expanding storage. Players can also buy, sell, and upgrade weapons and deliver finishing blows with Leon’s knife.
The Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil 4, available for $69.99, includes additional in-game content such as costumes, weapons, and a treasure map. The Mercenaries challenge mode is returning as free post-launch DLC on April 7th, 2023, and Resident Evil 4’s VR Mode is currently under development as a free DLC.
