State of Play – May 9, 2019 Highlights

The second episode of PlayStation’s “State of Play” came and went. Let me tell you, it was quite shorter and less exciting than expected. Sure, there was a heavy hitter but it didn’t reveal too much information. Check out the list below of every announcement along with a bit more detail on the games than what State of Play shared.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (Capcom) – 9/6/2019

Monster Hunter: World’s next major expansion “Iceborne” will be released on September 6th. It will feature a new story, a new location, and new monsters (of course). The new locations in Iceborne will have players exploring a snowy Hoarfrost Reach, which is said to be the largest region in the game so far.

Riverbond (Cococucumber) – This Summer

Riverbond is a hack-and-slash dungeon crawler that will feature awesome destruction where players can shoot and slash everything. Players can adventure solo or even adventure with friends with the ability to drop in or out as it’s slated to be a four-player couch co-op game. Explore the hidden depths of the world, discover new weapons or treasures, and face deadly bosses.

Riverbond will also offer skins from other familiar indie games Robot 05 (Planet of the Eyes), Demelza (Knights and Bikes), Lover Mu (Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime), Juan Aguacate (Guacamelee!), The Kid (Bastion), Raz Aquato (Psychonauts), Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight), and Bullet Kin (Enter the Gungeon).

Predator Hunting Grounds (illfonic) – 2020

Predator: Hunting Grounds is an asymmetrical, multiplayer, action game made by the folks who created the Friday the 13th game. According to the CEO of illfonic, Charles Brungardt, the game is still pretty early in development but he did hint at the gameplay experiences. One group of players will control members of an elite “Fireteam” and one player will control the “Predator.” The Fireteam will be tasked to carry out paramilitary missions such as killing bad guys and recovering items, while the Predator will be closing in to ambush its prey.

MediEvil Remake (Other Ocean Emeryville) – October 25

The MediEvil remake is making its way back, and it looks pretty and dark as ever. Take control of Sir Daniel Fortesque, who was accidently resurrected by an evil sorcerer Zarok (who was his greatest foe). Now he gets a second chance to take Zarok down to save the kingdom of Gallowmere.

Away: The Survival Series (Breaking Walls) – TBD

Away: The Survival Series was inspired by nature documentaries that will provide players with a third-person adventure experience that takes them on a breathtaking journey into the wild as a Sugar Glider.

Days of Play (New Playstation 4 Console)

This was an odd reveal as it showed off an upcoming Limited Edition PlayStation 4 System. No other information was revealed or released.

Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix) – TBD

The long awaited game everyone was clambering for has finally come back and it showed more of what players can expect (and boy, does it look amazing in this current generation). Originally announced at E3 in 2015, players get more of a look at the fantastic game. The teaser was brief and didn’t release any new details yet solidified that there will be more details to come in June. In that case, many can expect that the details will come at the Square Enix press conference at E3 (June 10th, 2019 at 6:00 PM PT).
