Today marks the launch of Supplice, a fast-paced, retro-style shooter developed by Mekworx, a team of renowned DOOM modders, and published by HYPERSTRANGE. The game is now available on Windows PC via Steam Early Access, giving players a chance to experience this throwback shooter built on the iconic GZDoom engine.
Supplice is set in a distant future where humanity has become a Type II civilization on the Kardashev Scale, thanks to Phoebus Technology Conglomeration (PTC) and their advancements in harvesting plasma material from the sun. As society shifts its focus from issues like climate change and pollution to overpopulation, PTC develops the Flux Gate, a new form of space travel aimed at finding more worlds for people to inhabit. However, their plan to extend humanity’s reach beyond the Milky Way doesn’t quite go as intended.
Players will take on the role of a lone heroine fighting her way through the exocolony of Methuselah, which has been overrun by terrifying alien creatures. The first chapter of Supplice features five polished levels set in abandoned space stations, desolate mineshafts, and deadly laboratories. Throughout these levels, players must collect keycards, uncover hidden secrets, and piece together the events that led to the current situation—all while enjoying a powerful 90s synthwave-inspired soundtrack.
Supplice offers an arsenal of powerful weapons, including the Cyclomortar, a gasoline-powered fireball launcher, and the triple-barreled Rotary Shotgun. Players will face off against biomechanical hybrids known as “Behemoths” and other alien threats as they attempt to either banish the creatures from Methuselah or eliminate them entirely.
