Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX Review

Summary
The Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max features a long-lasting 40+ hour battery life, a proprietary lag-free 2.4GHz wireless connection, Gel-cooled memory foam ear cushions, and added Compatibility with multiple platforms priced at $199.99. Standing in at 1.172lbs originally the MAX version only adds .7lbs at a total of 1.79lbs (According to Turtle Beach’s Amazon store pages). Adding the Flip-up Omni-Directional microphone was one of the most game changing differences with the Gen 2 version, they kept it intact. In the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX’s case I am not sure that the extra $50 is worth the upgrades. I would like to see a price hike more similar to the Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX upgrade which is only $30 increase. Its one of the best headsets on the market but it will set you aside a pretty penny.

It’s now time for the Sealth 700 Gen 2 to enter its next phase of development in version 2.5 or MAX. Holding the title  ofTurtle Beach’s flagship model the Stealth 700 Gen 2 was fully loaded and fully priced at $149.99. It also faced the same compatibility issues as the Stealth 600 Gen 2 had with only being available in a PlayStation or Xbox version. As we expected from an already top tier headset there wouldn’t be many changes to the design itself. Unlike the Stealth 600 Gen 2 Max upgrade there is virtually no weigh difference. Standing in at 1.172lbs originally the MAX version only adds .7lbs at a total of 1.79lbs (According to Turtle Beach’s Amazon store pages). I would compare the Sealth 700 Gen 2 Max to a Cadillac when speaking of its comfort. An acquired taste for gamers who play extended hours to wear headsets closer to 2lbs.

In this specific case I have bothStealth 700 Gen 2 and Gen 2 MAX versions right in front of me for comparison. Both frames are identical the only noticeable difference on the outside is the connect or enroll button is no longer there. This is the button used to coordinate the sync process on Xbox consoles. Its Gel-cooled, memory foam ear cushions are some of the most comfortable on the market today. They are thick and collapse around your ear like a giant memory foam bean bag. Adding the Flip-up Omni-Directional microphone was one of the most game changing differences with the Gen 2 version, they kept it intact.

We reach the question of now what are we paying an extra $50 for in the MAX version? A wheel breaker of course and the most major upgrade is its compatibility. Using the wireless transmitter, you now can connect too Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, PS5, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS4 Slim, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac. Bluetooth now offers support for the following devices iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and other Bluetooth equipped devices. MAX has a 40+ Hour Battery Life which is almost double from the previous version. DTS:X sound adds to the list of supported software alongside Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and for PS5.

Gen 2 MAX claims to have refined the internal acoustics in its house amplified 50mm Nanoclear speakers but I can’t tell any difference. Its sound was already top tier and I have always had high praise for Turtle Beach’s Superhuman Hearing sound optimization. The microphone chat clarity sounds phenomenal, glasses friendly ProSpecs technology is still a hit, I see no negative changes from the performance side of the Sealth 700 Gen 2 MAX.

In the Sealth 700 Gen 2 MAX’s case I am not sure that the extra $50 is worth the upgrades. I would like to see a price hike more similar to the Sealth 600 Gen 2 MAX which was only a $30 increase. Its one of the best headsets on the market for sure but it will set youback a pretty penny
