Peacemaker Joins, Krossplay Enabled: New Features Arrive Late February

Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have unveiled new details about their upcoming content for Mortal Kombat 1, spotlighting the addition of DC’s Peacemaker to the game’s roster and the introduction of Krossplay functionality. Scheduled for release on February 28, these updates promise to enhance the player experience with fresh gameplay options and broader connectivity across gaming platforms.

New Challenger on the Block: Peacemaker Enters the Fray

The latest trailer from the Mortal Kombat 1 team introduces Peacemaker, portrayed by John Cena, as a new downloadable content (DLC) guest fighter. Stemming from his roles in DC’s The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker series on Max, this character will be accessible starting February 28 for Kombat Pack owners, with general availability on March 6. Known in the lore as Christopher Smith, Peacemaker’s in-game representation is true to form, emphasizing his quest for peace at any cost. His gameplay includes a diverse moveset featuring gunslinging, unique helmet abilities, and the support of his bald eagle sidekick, Eagly. The incorporation of Peacemaker’s dance moves and humor into his fighting style aims to deliver a distinctive combat experience.

Janet Cage and Krossplay Functionality

The announcement also highlighted Janet Cage, an alternate reality version of Johnny Cage, as a new DLC Kameo Fighter. With a release slated for March 2024, Janet brings a supportive role to the battles, offering a variety of assist moves. This addition further expands the Mortal Kombat 1 universe with new strategies and gameplay dynamics.

Krossplay support is another major feature arriving on February 28, making cross-platform play possible for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC players via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This functionality will enable matchmaking in both Kombat League and Kasual matches, private 1 vs. 1 challenges with friends, and access to unified leaderboards, fostering a more connected Mortal Kombat community.

Free Trial Weekend for New Players

To introduce new players to Mortal Kombat 1, a Free Trial Weekend is scheduled from March 7-10 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This trial will offer access to the base roster, including main and Kameo Fighters, along with various gameplay modes such as online and local multiplayer, Towers, the first two chapters of Story mode, and Invasions featuring Johnny Cage’s Mansion.

This forthcoming content and functionality update for Mortal Kombat 1 aims to enrich the game’s ecosystem, providing players with new characters, enhanced cross-platform play, and opportunities for newcomers to explore the game’s offerings.
