Free League Publishing has announced the upcoming release of Wake of the Icons, the much-anticipated final chapter in the Mercy of the Icons campaign trilogy for the critically-acclaimed science fiction roleplaying game, Coriolis – The Third Horizon. The expansion is set to launch on June 7th, 2023, with pre-orders available now. Those who pre-order will receive immediate access to the PDF ahead of the official release.
Wake of the Icons is a lavishly illustrated book spanning over 200 pages, featuring three thrilling scenarios, extensive background information for the Gamemaster, and an appendix with over twenty different ship types that take part in the war of the horizons.
The first scenario, A Song for Kua, begins with a series of visions that lead the characters back to Kua. The second scenario, The Tenth Icon, sends the characters on a diplomatic mission to Sadaal to acquire the Nadir Flotilla as war in the Third Horizon looms ever closer. In the final climactic scenario, The Horizon Wars, the characters must lead the people of the Third Horizon to victory amidst the outbreak of war. The expansion also includes a metagame allowing the Gamemaster and players to play out the fleet movements and clashes of the war.
The expansion boasts original artwork from Gustaf Ekelund and Martin Grip, artists of the ALIEN RPG and BLADE RUNNER RPG, and the campaign is created by game writer Rickard Antroia. The rules are based on the renowned Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games such as the official Blade Runner RPG, ALIEN RPG, Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying, Tales From the Loop, and Forbidden Lands.
Coriolis – The Third Horizon is set in a remote cluster of star systems known as The Third Horizon, a place teeming with conflicts and war but also home to proud civilizations, both new and old. Players will crew a spaceship and travel the Horizon, exploring the ancient ruins of the Portal Builders, undertaking missions for powerful factions, and participating in political intrigue on Coriolis station – the center of power in the Third Horizon. Along the way, they may encounter strange beings from the Dark Between the Stars. Coriolis – The Third Horizon RPG received the ENnies Judges’ Spotlight award in 2017.
